My sister is a teacher at a local elementary school and every year they have a new theme. The teachers are encouraged to use that theme to decorate their classrooms.
This year the theme was Learning Under Construction.
She had found these animal shapes, but didn't think the animals were appropriate for the age group she was teaching that year so she asked if I could help her change them from animals into kids.
To this day, this is one of my all time favorite projects. Being able to take something that exists and use that as inspiration to create something else.
PROCESS: I scanned in the animals and sketched over them with tracing paper and pencil. I then took them into Illustrator and, using the Pen Tool, traced my sketches to turn those flat images into a 3D image, using different gradients to color each kid.
